A 2,000 Sq.Ft. accessory dwelling located on a steep site in Alexandria VA. With the site restrictions and design parameter in mind the dwelling was split into 3 floors serving different needs and purposes. The dwelling is divided into three main areas ; Entry and guest area, Family area and Private area. The design focuses on providing privacy from the surrounding lots while maintaining a well lit, open space. This was achieved by providing floor to ceiling bi-fold doors to create balconies on each floor. To add privacy between the first and second floor, which have a 12’ X12’ floor opening, a fully automated shading system was designed to allow sun and air through while providing visual privacy.
