Built for Dialogue
In Manhattan’s South Village, Gourmega reimagines the restaurant as a dynamic, community-driven space. Designed by Mariam Issoufou Architects and executed by TW2M, the 670 SF interior transforms seamlessly from daytime café to evening supper club.
At its core, a system of interlocking circular tables invites shared experiences, dissolving traditional dining boundaries and encouraging interaction. The compact footprint demanded precise coordination and detailing, resulting in a layout that feels both fluid and intentional. Every move within the space supports adaptability without compromising clarity of design intent.
Execution with Impact
Gourmega extends beyond hospitality into a model of social infrastructure. Led by Jon Gray of Ghetto Gastro, the project integrates a zero-waste approach with a built-in soup kitchen, supporting large-scale community outreach. TW2M translated this ambition into reality through thoughtful material execution and efficient construction strategies.
Natural materials including walnut, travertine, and alabaster bring warmth and permanence, while careful detailing ensures durability within a high-use environment. Custom elements, including the Highbridge Chair and dining tables, were developed through a close design and fabrication process, drawing from the culture and identity of the Bronx to inform their form and presence.
