Speyer Legacy Playground

Transforming Play at Speyer Legacy School

In collaboration with COOKFOX Architects, TW2M reimagined the Speyer Legacy School’s playground, turning an underutilized terrace into a dynamic space for sports, play, and community engagement.

Our design-build approach introduced exciting new play opportunities while ensuring a seamless blend of functionality and aesthetics. To enhance safety and durability, we installed high-quality safety netting and impact-absorbing surfacing, creating a secure and resilient environment for students.

A Playground for Every Student

At the heart of the renovation is a multi-use custom court, designed to accommodate students of all ages with dedicated spaces for active play.

Open areas were carefully planned to encourage unstructured exploration, free play, and school gatherings, making the space a vibrant hub for both recreation and connection. With thoughtful safety features and a flexible layout, this playground fosters movement, creativity, and community.

To say that TW2M exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. The renovation of our school’s rooftop terrace was probably a small job for TW2M, but we were treated as if we were their primary customer. Wassim in particular was engaged from the start, asking questions to help us hone our design and suggesting multiple solutions when challenges arose. (Undergoing any building project in NYC is never easy.) TW2M was extraordinarily responsive and finished each part of the project in a timely fashion. Despite the small space, we have managed to incorporate a regulation-sized basketball half-court, several distinct playing areas, as well as benches for seating for students and teachers and lots of storage. The kids use the terrace all day, every day, and we are so grateful to TW2M!
